The Glen Junor vision is to create a residential village immersed in regenerated natural habitat in Gisborne.

Our plan is to take degraded farmland that has been heavily grazed by livestock and turn it into a thriving natural habitat and community centre that will enhance the Gisborne region for generations to come.

The story of Glen Junor

Glen Junor is owned by Trent and Chrissy McCamley, residents of Gisborne for the past 20 years.

When the land was rezoned for development in 2017, Trent and Chrissy felt it was an important opportunity to carefully consider the future of the property and how it could best serve the Gisborne community.

Not convinced that traditional subdivision development methods would deliver good outcomes for the region, they started on a journey of discovery that would challenge and inspire their thinking and ultimately create the vision for Glen Junor that they have today.

Community-inspired

Over a number of years, Trent and Chrissy have studied and visited the most innovative contemporary communities across the globe. Serenbe has been the source of particular inspiration and The Glen Junor Team believe that an Australian interpretation of Serenbe, that is based on the social design and environmental values of Serenbe, can lay the foundation for a world-class community in Gisborne.

Trent and Chrissy were also hosted at The Prince of Wales’ model community, Poundbury, in the UK, Tornagrain and Chapleton in Scotland. In addition the Glen Junor Team has visited and studied Australian exemplars such as The Cape and Witchcliffe Ecovillage

The primary purpose of this research and documentation has been to locally calibrate the key elements of world class outcomes to the Victorian regional context, with Glen Junor and Gisborne at the heart. Great communities have been imagined and created many times in different parts of the world and it can be created in Gisborne, at Glen Junor.

Harry White

Most recently, the Glen Junor property is famous for being the long-term home of Harry White, legendary Australian Jockey and winner of four Melbourne Cups.

Harry brought many of his beloved racehorses back with him to retire at Glen Junor, with his most-loved horse “Think Big” living out his final years on the farm.

“Think Big” and “Hyperno”, winners of three Melbourne Cups between them, are buried at Glen Junor. Their memorial site will be the centre-piece of The Harry White Park, being created to respect and celebrate Harry and his connection with Glen Junor.

Harry is happy that Think Big will be remembered and is glad The Harry White Park will be a place for everyone. Read more about The Harry White Park here.
